Massage Therapy Practice Policies

Massage therapy can provide the benefits of enhanced relaxation, stress reduction, reduced pain from muscular tension and spasm, improved circulation and increased range of motion. Massage therapists are not licensed to practice medicine and therefore do not diagnose illness or disease; perform spinal manipulations; or prescribe medical treatments. Massage therapy is not a substitute for medical treatment, medication or diagnosis for any health condition a client may have. Clients should pursue appropriate health management for condition he or she may have. Customers accept massage at their own risk and Hilton Reykjavik Spa's massage therapists will not be held responsible for any complications due to customeres health conditions,

Rules and ethics
• Massage therapy involves the use of touch, and may at times include the use of oils, lotions, or creams. Coming to your massage therapy session with a clean body is imperative for the health and safety of both the client and massage therapist. Personal hygiene is mutually respected. Should either part fail to uphold their hygiene responsibilities, services for that session will be postponed.

• Client shall be in the waiting area on time, showered and wearing a robe. The massage room is not the locker room.

• A single massage session or massage on a random basis is limited to providing general, nonspecific benefits. If a client chooses to use massage on regular basis, he/she is encouraged to participate in an assessment process, working with the massage therapist to determine the most effective treatment plan to help achieve client’s goals.

 • Alcohol/drugs and massage DO NOT MIX. Massage therapist and client both will refrain from alcohol and/or drug use for at least 12 hours prior to the massage. If a client is taking or has taken prescription drugs for pain management or anti-inflammatory purposes in the past 12 hours, client should notify the massage therapist prior to the session.

• Clients may undress to their comfort level, removing underwear is optional. All clients will be covered and draped with clean linens at all times. Only the area being worked on will be undraped

•There is a 16 year old age limit to the spa.

• Hilton Reykjavik Spa is a professional practice following a strict code of ethics. Confidentiality of our clients and sessions will be honoured with one noted exception: Any revealed illegal activity or questionable activity, as required by law.

• Fees are to be paid in advance. Hilton Reykjavik Spa reserves the right to raise fees with 1 month notice.

Hilton Reykjavik Spa’s massage, is therapeutic in nature. All massage services provided are non-sexual. No sexual conversation or behaviour will be tolerated. Any inappropriate words, jokes, or suggestions by the client or the masseuse will result in the immediate termination of the session. Massage sessions terminated for inappropriate behaviour will be fully charged and the practice will be closed to client with no referral.

Due to certain contraindications and cautions for massage, the practitioner must be made aware of existing physical, medical and mental conditions as well as medications. It is the clients’ responsibility to keep the massage therapist updated on any changes in health status.

Cancellation and re-scheduling
Clients must give a 24 hour notice to reschedule or cancel appointments. If change in the appointment time is not appropriately given, the client may be charged the full fee. No-shows will be treated as cancellation without notice and fully charged.

Hilton Reykjavik Spa’s practitioners will begin all massage sessions on time. If the therapist is late, the session will be discounted according to the time missed. If a client arrives late for an appointment, client will have to settle for a shorter massage.
